Village of Wolverine schedules budget-review meetings; hears water testing update, park and rink items

President Ralph Ochs told the Village of Wolverine council that H2O chemistry testing is being completed this month, with tests for chlorine, fluoride and nitrate. He also opened the budget-review process, saying the village will publish two budget meetings for public notice and listing February 10, 2025 and February 26, 2025 as the first and final budget-review meetings; the transcript notes both meetings will be held at 6:00 p.m.
Council member Carla DeVoll raised park-related business, noting the village uses Campspot for campground reservations and suggesting the village pursue Department of Natural Resources (DNR) grant opportunities to support campground operations.
The street report noted that Piercing and Co. drilled four holes on S. Straits Highway to test soil conditions. The council discussed the need for volunteers to staff the rink and a proposal to move the EZ Ice Rink to North Park under the pavilion; the council agreed to continue that discussion at the next meeting.
Under new business, President Ochs said he will audit the village financials from the June 2024 year-end CPA review through the current month. It was also noted that Council member Tansy Sloan did not renew her term; as a result the village will need to appoint or recruit a new Liquor Inspector.
What happens next: The village will publish budget meeting dates for public notice; the clerk and treasurer will follow up on the audit and the clerk's financial report will be returned to the January agenda. The council will continue discussion of rink volunteers and the proposed relocation of the EZ Ice Rink.
