Cabot highlights CTE growth and student achievements; CNA pathway posts 100% pass rate

Nicole Gatewood, the district's CTE coordinator, told the board that Cabot's career and technical education program includes 19 pathways and that the district issues roughly 1,200 industry or pathway certificates annually, with 469 completers on target this school year.
Gatewood said Cabot High School's certified nursing assistant (CNA) pathway reported a 100% pass rate among 27 students. She also noted 15 students are participating in internship placements with Unity Health to shadow medical staff.
Superintendent Dr. Tony Thurman recognized three Cabot High students who earned Eagle Scout distinction: Blake Wilbur, Kaleb Wilbur and Spencer Byrd, each of whom completed community service projects at Reeds Bridge Civil Ward Park, the Reeds Bridge cemetery and at Camp Robinson. The board also spotlighted Magness Creek Elementary student Gracie Van Dorple for leadership and creativity and Cabot Learning Academy student Sean Rogers for resilience.
School staff recognized for program work included Magness Creek ed tech Emily Cain, who started a before-school coding club and oversees a student news segment, and Cabot Learning Academy teacher Toni Schiesz for collaborative support of students with diverse needs.
The CTE update underscores the district's focus on career pathways and local partnerships for work-based learning; the minutes do not include budget amounts tied to CTE or details about long-term expansion plans.
