Cabot School Board shortens course add/drop window, approves 2025–26 calendar

At its Jan. 30 meeting the Cabot School Board approved the 2025–26 student calendar (school start Aug. 12) and a policy change reducing the semester add/drop window from 10 days to 5 days effective July 1, 2025; the measures passed 6-0.
The Cabot School Board approved the 2025–26 student calendar and a change to the district's course add/drop policy during its Jan. 30, 2025 meeting.
Michael Byrd presented the calendar, which sets the first day of school on Aug. 12, 2025, and reduces parent-teacher conferences to one day each semester. The board voted to adopt the calendar by a 6-0 margin (motion by James Hertzog; second Pam Clem).
The board also approved a proposed change to the semester add/drop period, shortening the number of days students may drop or add a course at the start of a semester from 10 days to 5 days. Michael Byrd presented the proposal and Aaron Randolph said the PPC voted to present the minutes-based calendar and that honors and AP courses will follow a separate drop policy. The course add/drop change is scheduled to take effect July 1, 2025; the wording will appear in the 2025–26 course selection book and the student handbook.
Alana Graham reviewed accompanying updates to the course selection book, including additions about student success plans, community service learning, and the addition of Theater 1 at Cabot Freshman Academy. She also previewed summer school, ACT preparation and drivers education dates.
The board approved the add/drop policy change 6-0 (motion by Corey Williams; second James Hertzog). The district plans to publish finalized calendar and course-selection materials before the summer registration period.
