The Cabot School Board voted Dec. 17 to authorize yearly dues to the Cabot and Ward Chambers of Commerce, approve shuttle pay for bus drivers covering an additional route, adopt a School Choice Capacity resolution for the 2025–2026 school year, and uphold three administrative expulsions.
The membership resolution was approved to allow the district “to have a voting representative, be an active participant in Chamber events, and to receive all Chamber benefits,” the board record shows. Sarah Owen moved the motion to approve the dues; James Hertzog seconded. The motion passed 6-0.
The board also approved shuttle pay for drivers asked to run a second route in a single day, with the extra compensation to begin in January 2025. The transportation resolution was presented by Superintendent Dr. Tony Thurman and approved on a motion by Corey Williams, seconded by Sarah Owen; the vote was 6-0.
Board members adopted the School Choice Capacity resolution for the 2025–2026 school year after staff described edits that reflected policy changes made in the prior month. Marvin Jones moved the resolution; James Hertzog seconded. The motion passed 6-0.
On student-discipline actions, the board voted to uphold administration recommendations to expel three students (ID numbers 4004, 5847 and 7576) for the remainder of the 2024–2025 school year. Each expulsion motion passed on 6-0 votes; the motions and seconders are recorded in the board minutes.
The board also approved personnel recommendations as presented, encompassing retirements, resignations, transfers and new hires listed in the personnel packet. The personnel documents filed with the minutes list certified and classified retirements, resignations, transfers and new hires (see personnel packet). The motion to approve personnel was moved by Sarah Owen, seconded by Corey Williams and passed 6-0.
No public comment was recorded and the meeting adjourned at 8:37 p.m.
