The Sterling Board of Education reviewed the district’s financial position at its May 20, 2026, meeting, with Business Manager Sara Howley saying the district is projecting an approximate year‑end surplus but that the amount is subject to final reconciliations. Howley also told trustees the district budget was approved May 13 by a public vote of 78–10.
Trustee Catherine Malo moved to accept the Budget and Expense Report and Trustee Victoria Robinson‑Lewis seconded; the board voted unanimously to approve the report. The board’s acceptance covers the monthly financial statements and the current budget projections presented by the business office.
Why it matters: a year‑end surplus can affect carryover, reserve levels and decisions on one‑time expenditures or staffing for the coming fiscal year. Howley cautioned that the surplus figure is provisional until year‑end accounting is complete.
What’s next: the district will complete year‑end reconciliations and report final figures when available. The board’s meetings remain scheduled to monitor budget implementation and any actions needed before the new fiscal year.
