City Manager Mark Musselwhite told the Demorest City Council on May 12 that the city must decide how to proceed with a City Hall complex project and presented a proposed Blake Rainwater engineering contract priced at $19,600.
Musselwhite said council must decide the best uses for the City Hall building and is exploring financing options; he said a post‑office lease could provide cash flow to help pay debt service. He also reported that Brentt Cody is developing a program to define scope and budget and to help obtain better pricing for moving City Hall and the police department.
Separately, Chief Scheuerer outlined fire‑code needs for the City Hall complex, noting the existing system requires additional pull stations, smoke detectors, heat detectors and strobes to pass inspection. An ACG Solutions quote for those additional devices is $11,147.28.
The transcript records presentation of the contract proposal and the fire‑alarm quote but does not include a formal vote to contract Blake Rainwater or to accept the ACG Solutions quote. Council discussion emphasized the need for further scope definition and budgeting work before committing to debt or contracts.
