Demorest council waives first reading on rule banning used mobile homes from city

At the July 1 regular session, Demorest City Attorney Thomas Mitchell presented proposed amendments to the city’s mobile and manufactured home regulations that would prohibit moving used mobile homes into the city.
Mitchell recommended waiving the first reading and scheduling a public hearing prior to adoption. Councilman Shawn Allen moved to waive the first reading and set the item for adoption and a public hearing in August; Councilman Jimmy Davis seconded. The council approved the motion unanimously (4-0).
Why it matters: If ultimately adopted, the amendment would bar the relocation of used mobile homes into Demorest, changing the criteria for housing types allowed to be placed in city limits and potentially affecting property owners, developers and housing affordability discussions.
