Demorest revises zoning language on recreational vehicles, adds mobile‑home‑park district

At a special called work session Thursday, Mayor Jerry Harkness led the council through proposed zoning ordinance language changes carried over from the May 12 meeting and asked if members wanted any further edits.
The council agreed to delete section 89-90, "Parking or storage of recreational vehicles," and replace it with new language stating that recreational equipment — including boats, boat trailers, travel trailers, recreational vehicles, pick-up campers, motorized dwellings, coaches, tent trailers and similar vehicles — must be operational and have current registration and may be parked or stored only in driveways, side yards, rear yards, carports or an enclosed building. The replacement language also specifies that such equipment may be parked or stored anywhere on residential premises for a period not to exceed 48 hours during loading and unloading.
City Attorney Thomas Mitchell also indicated the ordinance will add an MHP (Mobile Home Parks) category to section 89-10, "Zoning districts." No additional modifications were suggested in the session's discussion, and the minutes record the council's agreement to the wording as read. The meeting record does not show a roll-call adoption vote at this work session.
The amendment clarifies where recreational equipment may be kept on residential property and formally adds a zoning district for mobile home parks to the city's zoning code for future regulation and review.
