Henrietta Township Planning Commission adopts Master Plan 2025–2030 with new solar and wind maps

The Henrietta Township Planning Commission voted to adopt the Henrietta Township Master Plan 2025–2030 following a public hearing on March 25, 2025.
N. Hawley, chair of the Planning Commission, noted the draft updates and that the master plan process satisfied requirements of the Michigan Planning Enabling Act (MCL 125.3841(2), 125.3843, and 125.3845). Commissioners added solar and wind suitability maps for both Henrietta Township and Jackson County as reference material in the plan.
R. Draeger moved to approve the plan by resolution; A. Wellington seconded. The motion passed unanimously by the members present, according to the minutes, which do not record individual roll-call votes. The commission’s next step is to submit the adopted plan to the Henrietta Township Board for final adoption by resolution.
The minutes list a number of substantive updates across the document: updated census numbers and dates; added sections on health and disability, social vulnerability, energy efficiency and resilience, and household computer coverage in the Population and Housing chapter; updates to community services (fire, rescue, ambulance, community recreation); and edits across goals, policies and objectives for natural features, agriculture, housing options, lake development, commercial and industrial policies, transportation, and recreation and open space. The Future Land Use Map (page 56) was not changed.
The adopted plan now explicitly references renewable energy suitability: policies and objectives on renewable energy were amended (page 22) and a Solar Suitability Map (page 66) and Wind Suitability Map (page 67) were added as references. The minutes record that these maps are included for reference; they do not indicate the maps create new zoning or regulatory authority.
There were no public comments recorded during the public-comment opportunities. The meeting was called to order at 7:20 p.m. and adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
The commission’s formal resolution and the updated plan will be forwarded to the Henrietta Township Board for consideration and possible adoption as the township’s official Master Plan.
