TALLULAH, La. — The Madison Parish Police Jury voted unanimously Friday to reaffirm that the Madison Parish Hospital Service District is a political subdivision of the State of Louisiana.
The vote came after Stanley Ogden moved to issue a resolution reasserting the district’s statutory standing and Johnny Hughes seconded. The motion carried with yeas from Jerry Hicks, Stanley Ogden, Dave Wilson, Johnny Hughes and President Jane Sanders; there were no nays or abstentions. The resolution is numbered 2025-16.
The text of Resolution 2025-16, which was read in full at the meeting, cites Louisiana Revised Statutes 46:1051 et seq., 46:1064 and 46:1072 and restates that hospital service districts have authority to acquire property, construct and maintain hospitals, levy special maintenance taxes, incur debt and issue bonds. The resolution also notes that the original establishing resolution is not presently available and directs that the reaffirmation be entered into the Police Jury’s official minutes, filed with the Clerk of Court, and provided to the Madison Parish Hospital Service District Commission for its governance records.
No members of the public spoke during the public comment period at the start of the meeting. With no further business, Ogden moved to adjourn; Hughes seconded and the motion to adjourn carried.
The minutes were signed by Secretary/Treasurer Margarett Dew and President Jane Sanders to memorialize the action.
