Council approves Wine & Food Festival site, fireworks permit and $1,500 contribution

Alderman Vanderheuel announced the Wine & Food Festival will be held July 12, 2025, from noon to 6 p.m. at the upper harbor parking lot. On a motion by Alderman Schwanz, supported by Alderman Claseman, the council approved use of the upper harbor parking lot for setup, event operations and cleanup; Vanderheuel abstained and the motion carried 4-0 with one abstention.
Clerk Harmon presented a fireworks permit for July 5, 2025, with a rain date of July 6; the council approved the permit on a 5-0 vote. Council also voted 5-0 to contribute $1,500 to the Harrisville fireworks fund on a motion by Mason supported by Schwanz.
The approvals authorize event use of city property and a modest municipal contribution to fireworks funding; council did not discuss additional public-safety or permitting conditions at length during the meeting.
