During the public-comment period on Feb. 17, resident Monica Spears asked the council to consider a city-business sponsorship program for five public flower gardens and offered to help coordinate planting and maintenance.
Mayor Gehring called Spears’ proposal “a great idea and opportunity for the community to help the city.” Council members discussed planning needs, Department of Public Works support, business sponsorship logistics and proper planting and maintenance. Alderman Vanderheuel offered to provide information to another resident, Laurie Szczesny, who asked how to participate in the hoop-house gardens.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; the discussion identified staff coordination and outreach as next steps if council elects to formalize a sponsorship program.
