On Oct. 13, 2025, the Madison Parish Police Jury approved a proposal from the Madison Parish Port to hire a shared operator whose time would be split between the parish and the port.
Mrs. K. Sterling of the Madison Parish Port presented the proposal, saying the Port "will pay half the salary and benefits of the employee" and that the Port "will purchase the equipment to be used and that it will be housed at the Parish Barn." Jerry Hicks moved to accept the Port's proposal; Stanley Ogden seconded. A roll-call vote recorded yes from Jerry Hicks (District 1), Stanley Ogden (District 2), Dave Wilson (District 3) and Johnny Hughes (District 4); Jane Sanders (District 5) voted no. The motion carried 4-1.
The arrangement commits the Port to purchase and house equipment at the Parish Barn and share employee costs; the minutes do not specify a start date, salary amounts, or the job title for the shared operator.
The jurors proceeded to other business, including an executive-session personnel discussion later in the meeting.
