Sherwood Township cancels August meeting, approves tree replacements and other routine business

At its July 2 meeting the Sherwood Township Board agreed to several routine operational items. The board canceled the August township meeting because it falls on the July 6 primary election and said it will call a special meeting if urgent business arises.
Clerk Marjorie Whitcomb presented a recommendation from Floyd Tucker of Showcase Gardens to plant three small flowering cherry trees in front of the township hall at $150 per tree; Showcase Gardens would plant the trees and provide a one-year warranty plus a two-year fertilizer application. The Sherwood Garden Club offered to donate the cost of one tree. Board member Haack moved to purchase the trees and Supervisor Aaron Robbins seconded; the motion passed.
Whitcomb asked the board to agree to pay Andrew Noland, owner of Silent Cities, $1.60 per mile when he returns to Sherwood Cemetery to repair damaged gravestones; the board agreed to pay mileage though Noland had not requested payment. Robbins reported the township parking-lot seal coating is scheduled for August 31, 2024, and that dust-control work has been secured with Corrigan Environmental Solutions of Whitmore Lake, Michigan, on the recommendation of Road Commissioner Jay Miller.
Treasurer Dale Marie Brubaker told the board the General Fund balance was $181,601.92 and that a revenue-sharing check for $27,779 had arrived but was not included in that balance. Fire Chief Jeff Smurr reported six calls for June and two trainings. The Wish a Mile Bicycle Tour will use the township yard as a rest stop on July 28, 2024.
Robbins moved and Brott seconded approval of the bills; that motion passed. Robbins moved to adjourn and Haack seconded; the meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.
