SafeBuilt and Sherwood Township cover permit fees for tornado-damaged properties

Sherwood Township officials told residents on July 2 that SafeBuilt has made arrangements with the township to cover building permits for properties damaged in the May 7 tornado so those residents will not be charged permit fees for cleanup or rebuilding.
Clerk Marjorie Whitcomb said three permit payments have already been received and that those funds will be returned to the senders. Supervisor Aaron Robbins said he has been discussing disaster-relief funding with Tim Minor but reported no new federal or outside funding at this time; Robbins told attendees that residents may need to proceed with repairs and that he will contact county and state natural-resources officials about storm damage in river bottoms and roadside tree hazards.
The board did not vote on this item; instead, SafeBuilt and the township coordinated to absorb permit costs for affected property owners, and the clerk will process reimbursements for already-submitted permit payments.
