St. Martinville council tables engineer contract, awards demolition work and approves community event permit

At its June 16 meeting the St. Martinville City Council voted to table renewal of a two-year contract with McBade Engineers & Consultants, awarded a demolition contract to Ticket Services, LLC, approved a community garage sale event at Adam Carlson Park, and authorized a DOTD maintenance agreement.
The St. Martinville City Council took several business actions at its June 16 meeting: it tabled a proposed two-year renewal with McBade Engineers & Consultants, LLC after a substitute motion and recorded votes; it unanimously awarded a contract for demolition and debris removal to Ticket Services, LLC; it granted permission for a community garage sale at Adam Carlson Park; and it authorized the mayor to sign a maintenance agreement with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) for mowing and litter pickup along state highways within the city.
On the McBade Engineers renewal, a substitute motion to table the renewal was made by Councilman Mike Fuselier and seconded by Councilwoman Carol Frederick; the vote was Yeas: M. Fuselier, C. Frederick and J. Anthony; Nays: F. Chatman; Absent: J. Fontenette. The substitute motion to table therefore carried and the renewal was deferred to the next council meeting.
The council unanimously awarded the low bid for demolition and debris removal under the 2023 Clearance Grant to Ticket Services, LLC. Councilwoman Flo Chatman moved the award and Councilman Mike Fuselier seconded the motion; the minutes show the motion carried unanimously. Separately, Cornell Zeno, representing SMSH Alumni, asked permission to hold a community garage sale in Adam Carlson Park on July 19; the council approved the request unanimously, with the alumni group to provide vendor insurance to CRT Director Danielle Fontenette and to charge vendors a $50 fee.
A resident, Bernard Mitchell, asked the council to remove a speed bump on Theater Street in front of the city pool; following discussion and a recommendation from Chief Martin, the council decided not to remove the speed bump, citing safety reasons. The authorization to execute a Consulting Services Master Agreement with Frank Ledoux, P.E. was also tabled.
Finally, the council authorized Mayor Jason Willis to enter into and sign a maintenance agreement with DOTD for mowing and litter pickup for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026; that motion was moved by Councilwoman Chatman, seconded by Councilwoman Anthony, and carried unanimously.
The meeting closed with the mayor's announcements and then adjournment.
