Manager Mike Luce told the board Hartland Township must now obtain its own Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit after an audit by EGLE (Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy). Luce said EGLE reviewed the township’s stormwater documentation and recommended actions; as a result Hartland will be responsible for routine maintenance on township‑owned stormwater assets and must clean catch basins at the four township‑owned locations about every five years. Luce said the MS4 documentation has been compiled into a roughly 140‑page packet and that related information will be posted on the township website for public review.
Luce also reported the township received a grant from MSP to support migration to a .gov domain and a second MSP grant to support two‑factor authentication. He referenced a recent EPA article on cybersecurity for water plants and said the township will explore potential cybersecurity upgrades for its water system.
On development and traffic matters, Luce said Sheetz has engaged with township staff and Livingston County Road Commission (LCRC) about possible intersection upgrades at Old US‑23 and M‑59; the township has received four concept plans and planning staff will review them. He said he met with representatives of local chambers of commerce about a proposed regional economic development advocate position and noted more detail is needed before Hartland commits funding.
Luce provided a Veterans Memorial update, including renderings for the War Animal and donor plaques and plans for the May 2 dedication; Trustee Petrucci estimated about 50 veterans would attend and Treasurer Horning said the township secured parking and transportation options for attendees.
These updates were presented as informational items; no formal board actions were taken on MS4 operational tasks, Sheetz concept plans, or the EDC proposal at the March 10 meeting.
