The St. Martinville City Council on April 7 handled a series of routine municipal items, approving contracts and local permits and taking action on property and personnel matters.
The council ratified Mayor Jason Willis's signature on the contract with Cuzan Services, LLC for Phase I of Festival Ground Improvements and adopted a resolution authorizing the mayor to sign and submit documents for the FY2022-2023 Louisiana Community Development Block Grant (Love Louisiana Outdoors) awarded for festival grounds improvements. Paul Allain, Architect APAC, and McBade Engineers and Consultants are listed in the grant/contract materials.
The council declared property owned by Burton Willis c/o Marilyn Hogan on Parcel #17201C2112 (Cemetery Hwy) a dilapidated trailer and a nuisance based on a report by City Inspector Rodney Richard, and authorized use of E&P Consulting Services, LLC to sell adjudicated property and approved a cooperative agreement with Wesly Johnson for that purpose.
Council approved closing Evangeline Boulevard and South New Market Street and permitting the sale of alcohol for the rescheduled Annual Acadian Memorial Festival on Saturday, May 17, 2025. The council also authorized Mayor Willis to execute a lease agreement with Enterprise Fleet Management for two pickup trucks for the Public Works Department.
On the recommendation of Chief Ricky Martin, the council unanimously approved hiring Jackilyn Lee as a full-time post-certified police officer at a pay rate of $18.22 per hour. The minutes record no opposition to these items and no additional conditions attached.
