Darien Beautification Commission discusses hanging baskets, recruitment and other business

At its Feb. 11 meeting the Darien Beautification Commission reviewed several operational items including hanging-basket logistics, open seats on the commission and minor treasurer activity. Sarah Schwarz, the commission chair, convened the meeting at Darien Town Hall.
Tracey Whitehead, the commission treasurer, reported no change from last month and said a bill for brick-advertising printing of $45 will appear on next month's report. Members briefly discussed how to allocate brick funds and agreed to think further about spending.
On hanging baskets, members discussed whether Ed at the Department of Public Works can allow a loaded truck to park in the DPW garage at the dump, and noted the need to give the flower company a firm delivery date and time. Tracey said she will contact other town businesses that are buying baskets and will collect payments on behalf of the commission. The group raised whether an additional trash can is needed near the site and said DPW would need to be involved for any installation.
The commission recorded that two seats are open and that a prospective candidate named Lenore has made contact; no appointment was made. Amanda Segura volunteered to coordinate with Heather of Middlesex Parish on the Parish's 250th project flags and sizing. The minutes also note that an Eagle Scout project proposal to install bat houses did not receive approval; no further details were recorded.
Chair Sarah Schwarz moved to adjourn at 9:50 a.m.; Danielle Seitz seconded. The motion and second are recorded but no vote is shown in the minutes. The commission's next meeting is scheduled for March 11, 2026.
