The Springport Village Council met in workshop on Feb. 11, 2025, and reviewed departmental reports, upcoming events and items the council moved to the formal agenda for its Thursday meeting.
Village Manager Saylors reported on several administrative and infrastructure matters. She announced a Spring Clean‑Up Day for May 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., said she had met with U.S. Department of Agriculture representatives on village concerns, and reported a Jan. 15 meeting with Chad Rumsey and Chris Burdette from Homestead to discuss renewal of village certificates of deposit. Saylors also told the council she and Collin Hawes met with CEI to provide updates on water and sewer projects and that they met with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy on Jan. 22. She said Todd Weaver from the Michigan Municipal League’s Loss Control program conducted a walk‑through on Jan. 22 and provided recommendations.
DPW staff Collin Hawes submitted the January 2025 DPW report. Council members reviewed delinquent utility accounts and potential shutoffs and examined the January account balance and disbursement reports.
Under unfinished business, the council confirmed a Feb. 13 meeting with Ray Hernandez to discuss village properties. Council members also noted that letters had been sent to all landlords about a rental‑inspection program and set a follow‑up meeting on March 20, 2025, to continue that discussion.
On new business, councilors discussed Summerfest planning and reviewed three auditor proposals. The council approved proceeding to purchase a fireproof file cabinet for the Clerk/Treasurer’s office. Several items were added to the formal council agenda for Thursday, including an MDOT offer to purchase property and two budget measures listed as Resolution 25‑2 (adopted budget) and Resolution 25‑3 (amended budget); motions on MML liability/property‑pool coverage and a custodial agreement were also noted for the Thursday meeting. The workshop assigned review of MML Loss Control recommendations to council member A. Ward.
President Barnette called the workshop to order at 7:08 p.m.; the session adjourned at 8:35 p.m. Minutes were recorded by Clerk/Treasurer Theresa Woolworth and are subject to approval at the next council meeting.
