Springport council appoints Kayla Bartley as trustee; tables proposed 2025–26 budget for 30 days

The Village of Springport Village Council on Jan. 9 appointed Kayla Bartley to fill a trustee seat and adopted committee appointments, while voting to table the proposed fiscal year 2025–26 budget for 30 days.

Village President Joshua Barnette called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Clerk Theresa Woolworth recorded present trustees Barnette, J. Bartley, Cavazos, C. Ward and A. Ward; Trustee Severns was absent. The council first approved minutes from the Dec. 12, 2024 regular meeting and the Jan. 7, 2025 workshop by recorded roll-call votes.

In new business, Trustee A. Ward moved and Trustee C. Ward seconded a motion to accept Kayla Bartley’s letter of interest to serve as a Village trustee; the motion passed on a roll-call vote with Ayes from A. Ward, C. Ward, Barnette, J. Bartley and Cavazos (Severns absent). Kayla Bartley had submitted a letter of interest earlier in the meeting.

The council then considered Resolution 25-1, a resolution to appoint individuals to hold appointed positions. Trustee C. Ward moved and J. Bartley seconded the motion to adopt Resolution 25-1. On the proposed budget for fiscal year March 1, 2025–Feb. 28, 2026 (Resolution 25-2), Trustee J. Bartley moved and Trustee A. Ward seconded a motion to lay the proposed budget on the table for 30 days. The motion passed on a roll-call vote: Ayes — J. Bartley, A. Ward, Barnette, K. Bartley, Cavazos and C. Ward; Severns absent. The council therefore postponed formal action on the proposed budget for 30 days.
