Harrietta planning commission recommends rezoning of 9004 Plum Orchard Road to residential

The Harrietta Township Planning Commission on March 25, 2025 voted to recommend that the Township Board approve a rezoning of Lots 1 and 2 of Sutton’s Plat, 9004 Plum Orchard Road in Munith, from Commercial‑1 (C‑1) to Residential‑2 (R‑2). The motion to recommend the change was made by Commissioner R. Draeger, seconded by Commissioner R. Troman, and passed unanimously by the commission members present.

At the public hearing on the proposed MAP amendment, one commissioner expressed concern that converting the parcel from commercial to residential would reduce the community's supply of commercial land. Another commissioner questioned whether the small parcel size met current standards for the existing C‑1 classification. The commission reviewed the list of permitted uses in the R‑2 district and said that rezoning would allow the property’s existing single‑family use to come closer to conformance with local zoning. Commission members also concluded, as recorded, that the proposed change was consistent with the township Master Plan and that, as presented, public services would not be adversely affected.

Under the commission’s process, the recommendation will be forwarded to the Jackson County Planning Commission for review before the Township Board takes a final vote. The meeting minutes show no members of the public spoke during the hearing. The session was called to order at 7:03 p.m. and adjourned at 7:19 p.m.

No ordinance or final rezoning took effect at the March 25 meeting; the commission’s action was a recommendation to the Township Board and is subject to subsequent county review and board approval.
