Deep River trustees review finances, steady circulation and upcoming projects

With no quorum present at the March 9 meeting, the Deep River Public Library Board of Trustees held an informational session and did not take formal votes.

Treasurer Donna Mingrone reported account balances: Liberty checking $3,899.46; Liberty Money Market $25,644.57 (showing $54.82 in interest earned); and Citizens checking $17,468. Trustees discussed that Citizens is charging for bank statements and Mingrone said she would check with Tom Lindner about enrolling the library or trustees in online banking to eliminate those fees.

Under the Library Director’s report, trustees reviewed monthly statistics and programs and were told patron usage is steady. The minutes record 12,501 books loaned out in a single year and note the state reimbursement rate of $0.35 per book. Trustees also received a recommendation from the Connecticut Library Association concerning proposed legislation H.R. 7661.

Facility and program items in the director’s report included an upcoming painting bid to be prepared by Yellow Dog and a recent art gallery reception that drew more than 50 attendees. Trustees recorded committee assignments for budget, exhibits, hospitality, house and grounds, personnel, policy, publicity and technology and noted roles for new members (Michael identified as co-treasurer; Luann as corresponding secretary).

The pocket park presentation was postponed to the next meeting due to illness. The meeting adjourned at 7:02 p.m.; minutes are subject to approval at the next trustees meeting.
