Dadeville council updates: Culberson paving, grant bids, Miller's Ferry bridge work

City leaders gave multiple infrastructure updates, saying they expect near-term paving and are pursuing several state and federal grants to address streets, sidewalks, traffic signals and a local bridge.
The Chair announced a June 3 bid opening to pave Culberson Street and close out a 2021 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) with the state. He said the city has applied for a Rebuild Alabama Act grant that, if approved, would fund paving on several streets including Oak Street, Patterson Street, Barrett Street, portions of Columbus and Bobo streets, Adair Street and Agricola Road to the city limits.
The Chair described a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant application to add sidewalks connecting Cooper Park to the square and to Renfroe's grocery store, enabling better pedestrian access from lower-income areas. He also said the city is pursuing an ATRIP grant to study and potentially install a traffic signal at Fayette Street and Broadnax, noting a 12-hour traffic survey is planned as part of the pre-work.
On the Miller's Ferry bridge, the Chair said the city is waiting on final ALDOT approval for repairs that would raise the bridge's posted capacity from 3 tons to 12 tons so school buses can cross; as a longer-term option the city is evaluating a non-bridge road entrance to the affected neighborhood because replacing the bridge would be cost-prohibitive.
All of the above items are contingent on grant approvals or ALDOT decisions. The Chair said state-led repaving on Highway 49 and Talisi Street will occur this summer and clarified those are state-funded projects rather than city expenditures.
