Granby School Committee elects Jen Bartas chair, reshuffles subcommittees and approves calendar changes

The Granby School Committee on May 26 elected Jen Bartas as chair for fiscal year 2027 and reorganized several subcommittees before approving routine housekeeping items and a small calendar adjustment.
Bartas was nominated and confirmed by voice vote after a motion to appoint a chair was made and seconded; the chair later ran through committee organization and assignments. The committee retained a three-subcommittee structure (policy; budget and finance; superintendent evaluation) and agreed to rotate community-outreach items through regular agendas rather than maintain a separate community-outreach subcommittee for now.
Members voted to place Liz Lefon and Trevor Augustino on the policy subcommittee and to add Thomas Hamill to the budget and finance committee. On the CES representation, the committee approved a motion naming Liz Lefon as the district’s representative to the Collaborative for Educational Services (CES), a regional cooperative that provides professional development and shared services. The motions were made, seconded, and approved by voice vote.
The committee also approved routine business: minutes from April 28, 2026; warrants 0065, 0067 and 0070; and a small adjustment to the 2026–27 school calendar. The calendar change removes three half-days previously set aside for in-person kindergarten registration now that registration has moved online, retains kindergarten screening, and moves the last day of the school year from June 11 to June 10. The adjusted calendar was presented as a way to keep more student instructional time intact and was approved by the committee.
Committee members discussed meeting scheduling for the coming year, agreeing to skip July meetings and to keep the February–June schedule intact while exploring reduced meeting frequency during lower-activity months. Subcommittee meetings will continue to be scheduled and posted separately; members were reminded of quorum and participation rules for subcommittee sessions.
The meeting closed with a routine announcement that the committee would enter executive session to discuss collective bargaining and would not return to open session.
