The Chicopee City Council Claims & Accounts Committee postponed consideration of Claim #24-10 on Wednesday after the claimant failed to appear.
Councilor Mary Beth Pniak-Costello, chair, read the agenda and noted members present: Councilor Samuel Shumsky (joining by Zoom), Councilor George Balakier, and Councilor Abigail Arriaga; Councilor Timothy Wagner was recorded as absent. The committee opened Item 1, which listed a claim from Jim Albert seeking $236.97 in restitution for alleged pothole-related axle and tire damage; the minutes state the claimant was not present.
Councilor George Balakier asked that the committee allow more time for the claimant to arrive because of inclement weather and moved for a recess; Councilor Mary Beth Pniak-Costello seconded. The meeting recessed and was called back to order at 6:09 p.m., at which point Pniak-Costello said the claimant still had not arrived.
Councilor Samuel Shumsky moved to postpone the claim to the "call of the chair," and Councilor Mary Beth Pniak-Costello seconded. The committee approved the postponement; four members voting in favor, none opposed, and one member absent.
The committee then moved to routine business. Councilor Samuel Shumsky moved to approve the minutes of Sept. 25, 2024; Councilor Mary Beth Pniak-Costello seconded, and the committee voted to approve the minutes. Finally, Shumsky moved to adjourn, Pniak-Costello seconded, and the meeting was adjourned at 6:12 p.m.
The minutes record that Claim #24-10 had previously been tabled on July 1, 2024, and Dec. 9, 2024; restitution sought was listed as $236.97. No additional testimony or public input was recorded.
