Select Board begins town administrator search; requests screening committee appointees

The Clinton Select Board on Jan. 21 began work on filling the town administrator position, reviewing a draft job description and arranging a screening process the board said the school superintendent will lead.

Chair Julie Perusse told the board she had shared a draft job description in the meeting packet and that the superintendent agreed to chair the screening committee. Perusse asked board members to email two recommended appointees with contact information before the next meeting so the superintendent could coordinate screening meetings, likely beginning in mid- to late February.

Board member Bill Connolly said he found the draft language unclear on the appointing authority for the town administrator and asked for an opportunity to propose revised wording. "I found it not clear or ambiguous about the appointing authority of the town administrator," Connolly said, and asked for further review of the draft.

Matt Kobus raised a separate personnel question about the assistant town administrator job description and whether changes had been approved by the personnel board; Perusse said she would check with staff and follow up.

Next steps: board members will submit recommended screening committee appointees to Perusse by the next meeting; Perusse will forward names and contact details to the superintendent, who plans to coordinate the screening schedule and provide guidance on process and rubric.
