Hillman names Mike Wilson park manager; trustee steps down from park manager duties

Trustee Johnathon Smith told the July 16 council meeting that he has resigned as park manager and that a new hire is in place to run Emerick Park’s campground; Smith said he has been working with the new manager to transfer responsibilities.
At the end of the meeting Mike Wilson introduced himself as the new park manager for Emerick Park; Wilson was welcomed by council members and said he "looks forward to working at the park." Smith’s statement indicates he retains his elected trustee seat while stepping away from day‑to‑day park management.
Trustee Velma Brown reported on airport maintenance, saying Airport Manager Mark Mellingen has not been mowing but has focused on removing trees blocking the airstrip. Brown said AeroPines will trim trees on its property and another property owner needs to be contacted about encroaching trees.
Clerk/Treasurer Brenda South raised questions about VJ Day activities, noting the VJ Day Committee had considered using the alley behind the Hi‑Way Inn for craft vendors but an alternate emergency route must be planned; she said craft vendors may have been scrapped and that a fireworks permit has been submitted with reports the show may be longer though not larger. The council asked President Hornbacher to check on parade logistics and noted there was no new information from MDOT on VJ Day capital signs.
