The committee voted to approve Mark Willette’s appointment to the Veterans Grave Officer, a term set to run through March 31, 2030. Willette said he attended Holy Name School and Chicopee High School and that he served 35 years of active duty, including 31 years based at Westover. Councilor Abigail Arriaga moved to close public input and then moved to approve the appointment; Councilor Gary Labrie seconded. All four councilors present voted in favor; Councilor Jerry Roy was recorded as absent.
Also on the agenda, the committee took nominations for the Library Board of Trustees and nominated Judith S. Chelte, Ph.D. Chelte said her late husband served as a Library Trustee, that she worked as secretary to the Friends of the Chicopee Library and helped that group organize its donation process, and that she taught English in Chicopee for 36 years. Councilor Mary Beth Pniak-Costello moved to close nominations; Councilor Labrie seconded. Councilor Arriaga then moved to approve Chelte for the standard term and the committee approved the nomination with the same attendance pattern as the earlier vote.
The committee also approved the minutes from its March 26, 2025 meeting on a motion by Councilor Arriaga, seconded by Councilor Labrie. Following that business, Councilor Arriaga moved to adjourn, Labrie seconded, and the meeting ended at 6:18 p.m.
