The Village of Hillman Council on Aug. 6 authorized environmental services and awarded the demolition and cleanup contract for the former Sports Center at 300 State Street. Manager Dave Post presented three bids; the low bidder, Elmers Crane and Dozer, Inc., was awarded the project at $117,625 following a unanimous vote.
Council members also approved entering into an agreement with Sagasser Associates Environmental Services to handle environmental work related to the site and designated the Northeast Michigan Council of Governments (NEMCOG) to serve as grant administrator for the project. Post said NEMCOG will perform site-readiness data collection for industrial and commercial parcels as part of the redevelopment effort.
The Council discussed water infrastructure work tied to broader site readiness: the water committee plans to drill test holes using funds from a $90,000 water grant. President Dave Hornbacher and Trustees Velma Brown and Tom Bouchey voted in favor of the contract award and administrative designations; two members were absent. No members recorded opposing votes.
