Hillman council hears updates on airport mowing, parks, lighting, lead-in audit and test wells

During its Sept. 17 meeting, the Hillman Village Council received a series of operational updates from Village Manager Dave Post and others on infrastructure and maintenance projects around the village.
Trustee Velma Brown said part of the grass runway still needed mowing; Manager Mark Milligen mowed part of the runway. Council members said the property owners at the south end of the airport have not trimmed trees that affect the runway; Post said a letter had been sent and Trustee Brown asked that a certified letter be sent to confirm notification.
Post reported the Department of Public Works is completing a lead-in audit covering 67 homes and that rope lighting was purchased for bridge lights. He said lights were out at the pocket park in front of Emerick Park and that duckweed treatment will be applied up to 14 days before lagoon discharge, pending required permits. Post also said Huron Engineering will conduct test wells after the school granted access because of iron bacteria in well No. 10.
Visitor Charlie Arbour reported the Montmorency County Road Commission had completed two projects north of Hillman. Manager Post also noted the newly completed pickleball court had been driven on and marked by bicycles; the village will erect a temporary snow fence until permanent fencing is installed.
The council adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
