Tower council approves pay app, grants application, auditor and other routine business; hires EMS responder

At its Feb. 10 meeting the City of Tower unanimously approved Lakehead Constructors Pay Application #5, designated the Timberjay as legal newspaper, selected Schutz CPA as auditor, authorized culvert repairs (~$44,000), approved a trails grant application, agreed to pay the Depot electric bill for the Tower Soudan Historical Society, and hired an Emergency Medical Responder.
The City of Tower Council moved through multiple routine items at its Feb. 10 meeting, unanimously approving several motions on contracts, audits, infrastructure, grants and staffing.
Council approved Lakehead Constructors Pay Application #5 related to the Water Treatment Facility project and accepted an informational update on Public Facilities Authority funding. The council designated the Timberjay as the City's legally designated newspaper for 2025 and accepted Schutz CPA, LTD as the City's auditor for audit year 2024.
The council authorized the City to proceed with spot repair work on Second Street North in collaboration with St. Louis County and to expend approximately $44,000, to be funded from the General Fund and Hoodoo Fund as needed, to complete the City's portion of the project. Clerk/Treasurer Michael Schultz reported that reimbursement activity related to the June 2024 flooding event is ongoing.
On community support, the council authorized beginning payment of the Depot electric bill as a contribution to the Tower Soudan Historical Society. Councilors also approved Resolution 2025-002 authorizing the City to apply for and accept funds from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and to submit a 2025 Federal Recreational Trail Program application.
The council moved to hire Tony Yeley as an Emergency Medical Responder for the Tower Area Ambulance Service. All motions recorded in the minutes passed unanimously. The council also received draft facility-use and governance materials on the Civic Center rental policy and a proposed Gundersen board; both items were provided for future review with no action taken tonight.
