The Queen Anne’s County Board of Education on June 17 approved two capital transfers and the purchase of 763 Dell Chromebooks to complete a district rollout begun at a prior meeting.
Chief Financial Officer Rob Watkins explained the district previously approved 3,467 Chromebooks but fell short on funding. "The two transfers together equal $455,511 which is the remaining balance left to purchase 763 Chromebooks," Watkins said. One transfer repurposed fund balance from a closed roof-replacement project and the other moved a FY27 furniture allocation to the Chromebook project. Board members asked about impacts to the furniture-replacement schedule; Watkins said the furniture fund will still retain roughly $500,000 for multi-year replacements and the Chromebook purchase was prioritized because of readiness and timing.
The board approved the capital transfers and authorized the Chromebook purchase by voice vote; individual roll-call tallies were not specified in the transcript.
What’s next: Technology staff will complete deployment and prepare the devices for service during the summer so they are ready for students in the fall.
