The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution R‑9‑C‑2026 on June 23 to publicly recognize the Auditor’s Office for receiving three awards from the Government Finance Officers Association: the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, and the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting.
Commissioner Morton said the popular annual financial report ‘‘distills things down, makes it easier for people to understand a complicated budget,’’ and he praised staff for sustained effort leading to the awards. The board invited members of the Auditor’s Office forward for photographs and scheduled a press conference immediately after the meeting.
An Auditor’s Office representative thanked staff who contributed to the three awards and noted the work began in earlier years; the office plans additional public outreach at the scheduled press event. The resolution’s language emphasizes transparency, accountability and service to county residents.
The resolution passed by voice vote; both recorded commissioners in the transcript voiced approval. The county will host a press conference to present the awards and to highlight the office’s work in making fiscal information accessible to residents.
