Chicopee senior center reports demand for expanded transportation and lists new programs after Conference on Aging

Staff said a recent survey and program activity point to growing demand for expanded services at the City of Chicopee senior center.

Sherry Manyak, a staff member, reported at the June 10 meeting that she and colleague Holly attended an MCOA meeting and returned with ideas the center plans to explore. Manyak said the center's survey results showed attendees want expanded transportation to include shopping destinations in Holyoke and West Springfield. Manyak also said a follow-up survey on the lunch program and a separate café survey are planned.

The center held its first Conference on Aging with more than 100 people in attendance, according to the minutes. Manyak said the Gardening Club held its first meeting and that staff have replaced wooden garden boxes with metal beds. The minutes recorded that the Veterans Wall dedication was well attended and that a ribbon-cutting for the wall was scheduled for May 23 at 2:30 p.m.

The minutes also list a slate of community events: three summer concerts that will be followed by dinners (menu plans discussed), and a Rotary-sponsored dinner tentatively planned for September or October.
