The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors voted June 2 to approve routine financial and personnel business. The board approved accounts payable batches and wire transfers the clerk summarized at a total of $397,173.82 and approved a service agreement with Howard E. Nihart Company for FY26-27 actuarial services.
In a presentation, Adam Karns of Hub International reviewed the county's workers' compensation program. Karns said the county received $37,955 in dividends this year and estimated current-year premiums near $152,510; next fiscal-year premiums were estimated at about $135,770, a reduction that equates to an estimated $16,344 savings versus the prior year. The board moved to accept the workers' compensation renewal.
Supervisors approved a personnel package including three correctional center items (including a new full-time correctional officer with a June 4 start date), a health-department resignation, and a lead maintenance hire. The board also approved the Veterans Affairs monthly report and the minutes of the May 26, 2026 meeting.
Votes and procedure: motions were made, seconded and carried during the meeting; supervisors voiced "yes" during roll-call confirmations. No contested outcomes were recorded on these items during the open meeting.
Next steps: staff will file the Veterans Affairs documents in the auditor's office and follow the normal onboarding steps for new hires.
