Hillsdale Community Schools board approves hires, donations and budget revisions

Hillsdale Community Schools Board of Education on Dec. 16 unanimously approved four personnel hires, accepted several community donations, adopted revisions to three budget funds for 2024–25 and set the district's January organizational meeting.
The board voted 7-0 to hire Nadia El Anani as an Adult Education Success and Retention Specialist (motion by Kathy Petersen, second by Rebecca Portteus); Lynnette Lawson as an educational assistant at Gier (moved by Petersen, second by Portteus); Daniel Musielewicz as a Deerfield Middle School physical education and health teacher (moved by Petersen, second by Eric Moore); and Connie McCutcheon as a bus driver (moved by Petersen, second by Portteus). Each motion carried 7 Ayes, 0 Nays.
The board also accepted a $3,500 donation from the Randall & Nancy Guise Foundation (moved by Leslie Bennett-Granata, second by Petersen); $6,800 from the Hillsdale County Community Foundation (moved by Petersen, second by Moore); $500 from Lake Pleasant Recycling for the trap shooting club (moved by Petersen, second by Portteus); and $500 from the Kiwanis Club of Hillsdale for a NED school assembly (moved by Patrick Flannery, second by Petersen). All donations were approved by unanimous vote.
In extracurricular business, the board approved an overnight track meet trip for April 2025 as presented (moved by Petersen, second by Bennett-Granata), again by a 7-0 vote.
On finance matters the board adopted 2024–25 budget revisions for the General Fund (11) (moved by Petersen, second by Portteus), Building & Site Fund (41) (moved by Bennett-Granata, second by Dan LaRue) and Building & Site Fund (42) (moved by Petersen, second by Portteus). The treasurer had reported November receipts earlier in the meeting of $2,161,768.96 to the General Fund, $10,862.60 to Building & Site and $144,672.99 to Food Service. All budget revisions passed 7-0.
The board set its January 2025 organizational meeting for Jan. 20, 2025 at the Hillsdale High School library (moved by Rebecca Portteus, second by Petersen) and adopted a social media litigation resolution as presented (moved by Petersen, second by Eric Moore); each action passed unanimously.
