Union City Council approves canoe/kayak launch contract, clears Landbank lien and awards seven Renaissance grants

Union City Borough Council on Aug. 27 unanimously approved a package of routine and project-specific actions including a contracted canoe/kayak launch, removal of a borough lien on a donated property, and award of Renaissance grant funds.
Councilor Osborn moved and Councilor Kerns seconded acceptance of Construction Services of PA's $16,679 quote to install a canoe/kayak launch at the American Legion ball field, contingent on receipt of an easement from the American Legion. The council recorded the motion as carried unanimously.
Manager Cindy Wells told council that the borough has a lien of approximately $2,690 on 121 East High Street, a property donated to the Erie County Landbank, and that the landbank asked that the lien be released. Councilor Kerns moved and Councilor Steadman seconded a motion to satisfy and remove the lien for the full amount; the motion carried unanimously.
On grants, Wells reported seven Renaissance grant applications totaling $60,606 in project value and requesting $23,600 in grant funding; she said $90,547.35 remains in the Renaissance fund. Councilor Steadman moved and Councilor Osborn seconded approval of the seven recommended awards totaling $23,600 to support property improvements aimed at reducing blight; the motion carried unanimously.
The council also passed a resolution accepting the Erie Area Council of Government (EACOG) audit report after members of the COG reviewed and accepted it. The motion to adopt the resolution was moved by Councilor Osborn, seconded by Councilor Steadman, and approved unanimously.

Manager Wells also said the borough will send a letter of support for a PennDOT Charging & Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program application along U.S. Route 6.
