The Sevierville Regional Planning Commission on Feb. 5 approved a zoning change allowing the Church of God Smoky Mountain Children’s Home to use property at 440 Parkway for religious assembly and an education center.
Corey Divel told the commission the property was donated to the children’s home and that the proposed uses are not permitted in the current Arterial Commercial (AC) district but are allowed in Intermediate Commercial (IC), which adjoins the property on the north side. Staff said expected occupancy would be up to 60 children in grades 7–12.
Commissioner Butch Stott moved to approve the rezoning; Commissioner Wayne Helton seconded. The motion passed unanimously. The approval permits the property to be used for the stated children’s home program subject to any required building- and fire-code review.
