Denison City Council adopted a resolution to accept new criteria and requirements from the Iowa Municipalities Workers' Compensation Association (IMWCA) to maintain coverage for city fire departments.
City staff explained the pooled insurer had introduced requirements for physicals and certain testing because compliance varied among member cities. Staff said the city already performs many of the requested checks, that they will schedule physicals on a multi-year cycle and that the mayor and fire chief will sign the related document when presented.
Councilmembers discussed logistics, scheduling and budget implications; staff noted the city budgets approximately $2,000 a year toward these services and that IMWCA expects some items to be completed every five years. Council approved the resolution on roll call.
