Denison awards DOT-led Broadway resurfacing contract to ONG Midwest

Denison City Council on Wednesday approved plans and specifications and awarded the Broadway HMA resurfacing project to ONG Midwest, following the Iowa DOT letting process.
City engineering staff told the council the project was bid through DOT and that four competitive bids were received. The low bid came in near the city's estimate; staff recommended acceptance and said the DOT's Doc Express system will be used for electronic contract execution. "There's really no reason not to accept them," the project engineer said, recommending award to ONG Midwest.
Council members were reminded not to contact bidders directly while the DOT contract is pending. "Do not reach out to them with questions," a staff member said, noting such contact could require a rebid if it violated DOT procedures.
Council approved resolutions to adopt the plans and specifications, to approve the contract and bond, and to make the award of the contract by roll call.
The engineering team also discussed associated sidewalk and intersection work tied to ADA compliance and described how some curb and bump-out work will be removed and replaced to meet current DOT standards.
The council authorized staff to proceed with contract execution through the DOT process; staff said they will return with schedule and coordination details for sidewalks, driveways and property owners once the contractor has been contacted through the formal process.
