MOJC technical advisory committee recommends FY27 transportation planning work program to policy board

The MOJC Transportation Technical Advisory Committee on Tuesday recommended that the urbanized area policy board approve the draft FY27 transportation planning work program.

Kent Rollson, MOJC executive director, presented the document and said it contains locally requested projects as well as items required by the Iowa Department of Transportation, the Federal Transit Administration and the Federal Highway Administration. He told members the plan will carry over ongoing projects that have not yet started and that staff will continue to accept project requests through the year.

Rollson noted a few recent additions: “we did receive a few other requests. We got some speed study requests from Paul with the county that we'll add to the list for next year,” and he asked committee members to review the packet and flag any needed corrections before the policy board meeting next Wednesday.

A committee member moved to recommend the TPWP; a second was offered and the committee approved the recommendation by voice vote.

Why it matters: the TPWP is the annual work program that organizes the region’s planning tasks and helps schedule staff resources; formal committee recommendation sends the draft to the policy board for final approval. Members were asked to check project descriptions and programming years so projects show up correctly in the final documents.

Next steps: the committee’s recommendation will be placed before the urbanized area policy board at its meeting next week for final action.
