Township approves fiber-optic easement to Susquehanna Township School District

The Susquehanna Township Board unanimously adopted Resolution 2026-R-01 authorizing the President and Secretary to execute a fiber-optic line easement agreement with the Susquehanna Township School District (STSD).
Planning and Zoning Administrator Mack Breech said the easement would permit STSD to install a fiber-optic line beneath McNaughton Park to connect the new Deer Path Road school with Thomas Holtzman Elementary. Breech noted the agreement includes installation, maintenance, and relocation provisions; the school district contracted with Lobar Associates to perform the work.
Commissioner Steven Napper asked whether the line would be deep enough to prevent damage from buses and fire trucks and whether concrete encasement would be needed. The School District’s engineer and spokesperson assured the board the line would not require concrete encasement and would not be impacted by buses or fire apparatus. Commissioner Napper moved to adopt the resolution; Commissioner Carl Hisiro seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.
The easement grants STSD rights to install and maintain the fiber line subject to the agreement's terms and conditions; staff will coordinate implementation with the School District and contractor.
