Susquehanna Township adopts updated refuse and recycling ordinance

The Susquehanna Township Board of Commissioners on Feb. 26 adopted Ordinance 2026-02, updating the township's garbage and refuse chapter to reflect current service specifications in the Township’s trash and recycling contract.
Michael Miller, the township solicitor, opened the advertised public hearing on the measure, stating, “this is the time and place that was properly advertised for comments regarding Ordinance 2026-02, Refuse and Recycling.” No members of the public spoke. Township Manager Theresa Eberly had no additional comments, and commissioners offered no amendments.
Commissioner Carl Hisiro moved to adopt the ordinance; Commissioner Sean Sanderson seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously.
The ordinance repeals and replaces the old refuse chapter, integrates updated terms and service specifications from the Township’s current contract, and is intended to ensure local regulations are legally and operationally consistent with the contractor agreement. The board did not record any substantive public objections during the hearing.
The adoption completes the public-hearing requirement and implements the updated operational terms; the ordinance will be codified in the Township’s ordinances per standard procedure.
