Sharon EDC to join Library Reuse Committee as two Carnegie building proposals are reviewed

Judy Crosby, vice chair of the Library Reuse Committee, told the committee that the reuse effort began in 2024 and that after repeated RFP issuances the committee recently received two responsive submissions: a request for a 15‑year lease to operate a daycare and an offer to sell the building for condominium conversion. "The recommendation is to add 1 person from the EDC and 1 from the Historical Commission," Crosby said, explaining the committee has temporarily fallen from seven to three members and has been reconstituted to five.
The two proposals present different policy choices for the town: a long‑term lease for a childcare provider or a sale that would convert a municipal building to private residential use. Both options will be reviewed by the Library Reuse Committee and discussed with the Select Board before the EDC participates in any formal recommendation.
Both Hy Waxman and David Straus expressed interest in serving as the EDC representative on the reuse committee. The committee did not record a formal vote to appoint a representative at the May 11 meeting; Waxman said he would participate in the May 18 review and attend the Select Board discussion on May 26.
Next steps: the Library Reuse Committee will review the proposals on May 18, the EDC representative will join that review and will meet with the Select Board on May 26 to report findings and recommendations.
