Following executive-session discussions about contract negotiations, the full committee returned to open session and recorded a public vote approving a three-year contract to make Dr. Molly Cohen the permanent superintendent of Lynn Public Schools. Mayor Nicholson reported the vote and Dr. Cohen spoke briefly, saying she was "deeply humbled and grateful for the opportunity to continue to lead in a district in a city that I love."
The committee also approved a one-year extension for the school committee attorney. The votes were taken by roll call after the executive session; the chair said staff had prepared contract terms and that the board would move forward with the superintendent's agenda for improved student outcomes, family engagement and instructional leadership.
No contract dollar amounts were announced in open session; committee members said details would be posted consistent with personnel and procurement rules and that they looked forward to working with the superintendent on strategic priorities.
