The Lynn City litter and trash committee on June 23 held a recognition ceremony for the winners of its annual second‑grade poster contest, praising students for promoting litter prevention and announcing plans to display the artwork across the city.
Co‑chair Chairman Field said the program — now in its sixth or seventh year — brings council members, the mayor and school leaders into classrooms to teach children how to help keep Lynn clean. "There's no better grade in my opinion than our second graders," he said, calling the students' engagement "amazing." The committee thanked Associate DPW Commissioner Lisa Narrick for coordinating the project and credited local schools and teachers for participating.
Officials said each of the 21 school winners will receive 10 printed posters and that an additional 40 posters will be displayed in businesses citywide to amplify the conservation message. The citywide winner’s design is already on a billboard in Wyoming Square. Families and school staff were invited to join winners on the City Hall steps for photos.
The committee adjourned after the presentations. Members said they will reach out to students who could not attend and arrange later recognition opportunities.
