The applicant said paperwork had advanced and that the matter is expected to go before City Council, initially cited as July 7 (and possibly July 26). The proposed address is 431–433 Chatham Street; the applicant said they plan to occupy 433. A board member moved “to extend until the hearing date in front of the City Council,” which was seconded and approved by the board.
Board members emphasized that this extension should be short and that it may be the last one if the council rules unfavorably. The applicant urged the board to allow the extension because their business supports their family: “I have four children that I’m feeding from this business,” the applicant said.
Members raised zoning and distance concerns. The applicant said the location is “over 1,000 ft away from English” High School and had checked that distance; another board member noted a Google Maps estimate of 0.3 miles to an elementary school and warned zoning could be an issue before the council. Staff said they would attempt to verify the measurements and follow up with background information for the applicant.
The board agreed the extension would remain in effect even if the City Council tabled the hearing until a final decision and asked staff to coordinate with the City Clerk about the hearing date and notice.
