The council also discussed longer‑term revenue options for highway needs. Commissioners noted the county has relied on riverboat revenues to cover highway expenses for years and raised the possibility of a wheel tax to free riverboat funds for personnel costs. Staff were asked to gather wheel‑tax projections and additional vendor quotes so the council can revisit the purchase during upcoming budget hearings.
The council did not adopt a purchase at this meeting; members directed staff to return with more pricing and financing options before making a final commitment.
