Committee revisits nip-bottle recycling and discusses limits of local action

The committee revisited prior discussions of a possible local ban on nip sales and noted that a bill to ban nip sales has been proposed at the state level in previous legislative cycles.
Committee members agreed this is a complex issue constrained by state-level approaches and retail negotiations. Janice Wivagg said the current Nip Bottle Stipend Program resulted from a compromise with liquor stores; she will follow up with Town staff (Neil Rhein) on potential local recycling ideas and options.
The committee did not adopt new local rules or formal motions on the matter at this meeting; members framed next steps as research and consultation with town staff and state contacts.
